Do you usually wake up with headaches?
Headaches can be an uncomfortable and sometimes debilitating health concern that many patients deal with. Finding the right solution for headaches can bring forth some much-needed relief. Constant headaches, especially in the morning, may be a sign of a complex dental problem. Many patients don’t realize that headaches may be linked to a health concern that can be treated by an experienced dentist. Constant headaches may be a side effect of TMJ disorder, sleep apnea, or teeth grinding (bruxism).
Most headaches are a result of stress. However, if your headaches are paired with persistent jaw pain or discomfort, you may be experiencing TMD. Patients with TMD may have dysfunction in the temporomandibular joint. If left untreated, headaches may affect the condition and quality of your life.
At Sudbury Dental Arts, our dental associates offer a wide selection of treatments to treat patients with TMD, sleep apnea, and teeth grinding. Sudbury Dental Arts can provide comprehensive, personalized solutions for patients who may be experiencing headaches. We will perform a thorough exam to determine the cause of your headaches and create a solution based on your needs. If your headaches are caused by TMD, we may recommend oral appliance therapy to relieve tension and stress in your jaw.
Do You Have TMD?
The first step is to determine if your headaches are caused by TMD. One of our highly trained associates will perform a thorough examination of the temporomandibular joint to determine if there is misalignment or dysfunction in the jaw.
Patients with TMJ disorder may experience one or more of these symptoms:
- Teeth grinding
- Neck, shoulder, or upper back pain
- Migraines or headaches, especially in the morning
- Difficulty chewing or moving the jaw
- Stiffness in the jaw
- Popping or clicking of the jaw
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, schedule a visit to Sudbury Dental Arts. Our dental care team offers effective diagnosis and advanced, personalized solutions to alleviate your symptoms of TMD and restore your quality of life.
Treating Headaches in Sudbury, MA
For headaches caused by TMD, teeth grinding, and sleep apnea, we may suggest a custom-designed bite guard or an oral sleep appliance. After a detailed bite analysis, your dentist may recommend a bite guard or oral sleep appliance to alleviate your symptoms and prevent further damage to the teeth.
Your bite analysis may require different treatment paths as well. TMD can be caused because your bite is misaligned. When your bite comes together properly, the pressure from the bite is distributed evenly throughout your smile. If certain areas are taking on more of the pressure than others, your teeth may break and experience more wear in that area. If your bite is misaligned badly enough, something like Invisalign may be required to bring your teeth and jaws back into proper alignment.
